A Dolls House: questions part 1

1. after reading act one i felt bad for nora because she did go behind her husbands back and got a loan so they could go to italy, which saved his life. Torvald was saying how Kragstad is a bad person and poisons his children with lies which is what nora is thinkin of herself.
-Torvald is going to become manaer of a bank.
-nora took out a loan to get the money for the trip to italy.
-Krogstad threatens nora because she broke the law.

3. - torvald calls her his little squirrel and a lark, calls her scatterbrained and that she spends money like her father.

4. noas strengths are taking care of her children and husband, making sure everyone is happy. her weaknesses is that shes scaterbrained and she spends money without a thought.

5. mrs. linde might be a foil character to nora because mrs. linde has always had to worry about money, work hard for her money, and spend it wisely. on the other hand nor doesnt hve to work hard because her husband brings in the money and fair amount of it, nora spands alot of money when she likes.

7. something that prevents people from understanding what is going on in their own lives is lies, when people lie alot they end up pileing up and their whole being becomes one big lie.

School Memory

When I was in second grade in the morning we would always line upon the ramp by the entrance to go upstairs to class. one day all of the girls in my class decided tat it would be a good idea to gang up on the boys and beat them up. we all huddled up like it was a football game and each girl chose a boy that they'd beat up. the plan was made and we were on the attack. I remember i beat up christian, i pushed him on the ground and kicked him in the nuts. i felt bad after i did it because christian was one of my friends. then our teacher Ms. Skelly came down and yelled for us to stop. we all stopped dead in our tracks because we had never herd her yell before. she took us up to the class room and told us she was very disappointed in us all, even the boys, i thought that was funny because they didn't do anything.

Apartheid

Apartheid began in South Africa in 1948 by the Dutch, it was legal segregation of the native blacks and Indians from India from the whites. It lasted until 1994. The government segregated education, medical care, beaches, and other public places. The 'minorities' (Blacks, Indians) were only allowed to work certian jobs for incredably low wadges. The government told them what they could do and where they were allowed to go. Protests began in South Africa over Apartheid, one of the main leaders for these protests was Nelson Mandela, who spnt 27 years in prison as a political prisoner, where most of his time served was on Robben Island. After the negociations to end Apartheid in 1994 happened Nelson Mandela became the president of South Africa in the new democratic elections.

Something that inspires you

I believe that everyone has something or someone that inspires them. It could be your favorite song, poem, actor, or family member. What inspires me is a song called “Born This Way” by Lady Gaga. The whole message of the song is that your perfect the way you are, hold your head up and be who you are, “I'm beautiful in my way, 'Cause God makes no mistakes.”
Saying Lady Gaga is different is an understatement to most people, she wears very strange outfits everywhere she goes, even her music videos are down right odd but she is just being who she is, that’s what her song “Born This Way” talks about. In high school she was one of those kids that was bullied and picked on because she had a very big nose, very curly brown hair, and was overweight. Gaga said “I want to create a space for my fans where they can feel free, and they can celebrate. I didn't fit in at high school, I wanted to be like Boy George and I felt like a freak. So I like to create this atmosphere for my fans where they feel like they have a freak in me to hang out with, and they don't feel alone." In the song it says “I'm beautiful in my way 'Cause God makes no mistakes, I'm on the right track baby, I was born this way, Don't hide yourself in regret, Just love yourself and you're set, I'm on the right track baby I was born this way” This line of the song is what inspires me the most, it says your beautiful the way you are, don’t hide who you are, and love yourself.

The Guest: question

1. i think now that Daru has been threatened that the native people will destroy the school house and drive Daru off the plateau or kill him.
      -the Arab killed his cousin
-balducci brought the Arab to Daru because he was suppose to bring him to the jail.

2. i think the Arab chose to go to prison rather than go free was because Daru treated him like a guest rather than a prisoner and gave him the option to do the right thing and face the consequences of his actions.

5. what is ironic at the end of the story is that Daru gives the prisoner the choice to go to jail or go free and the prisoner chooses to go to jail.

3. Daru's main conflict is that hes told he has a duty to France during upcoming war time, he doesn't like that the Arab killed someone, and he doesn't feel like its his job to deliver the Arab to prison.

7. if Daru escorted the Arab to the nomads he would have regretted making that decision because he thought that it was wrong for the Arab to kill someone.

The Guest by Albert Camus

Pause and Reflect: Why is life so difficult for Daru's pupils and their families?

Life for Daru's pupils and their families is so difficult because they're all poor and live on top of a plateau and there was a drought so non of the families can grow crops to support their families.

When company comes.
(when ppl come)

Besides,
They’ll see how beautiful I am

Poetry Out Loud

 I, Too

By Langston Hughes
I, too, sing America.

I am the darker brother.
They send me to eat in the kitchen
When company comes,
But I laugh,
And eat well,
And grow strong.

Tomorrow,
I’ll be at the table
When company comes.
Nobody’ll dare
Say to me,
“Eat in the kitchen,”
Then.

Besides,
They’ll see how beautiful I am
And be ashamed—

I, too, am America.
_____________________________________________________________________________________________

I decided to choose this poem "I,Too" by Langston Hughes to recite at the poetry out loud thing because its kinda short and i cant memorize things well nor do i want to.

I Too Sing America is about slavery and how african american black people were treated badly. they would be shunned away when friends came like they're ashamed, but he believes theres hope, he hopes for tomorrow and he knows that tomorrow will be better and he believes that slavery will be stopped.

Performance Review

Name: Michael Obi
Job: Headmaster
Assessment: Mr. Obi's enthusiasm is through the roof which is great! His skills in communication and compromise with the village people is poor. The maintenance of the school is atrocious it looks like a a tornado came whirling threw here.

I would give him one more chance but if he messes up again he is gone.

Civil Peace

1. After reading the story i think after everything that has happened to Jonathan he still has an optimistic outlook on life.
         - Jonathan acquires his money from taxiing people to the closest tared road.
         - Jonathan's money gets stolen by thieves

3. Jonathan has an optimistic outlook on life. Even after he lost one child, encounter thieves, and gets his money stolen, he's just thankful that he has most of his family, and a room over their heads.

4. "Nothing puzzles God" means that things may happen and you don't understand why but God knows why it happened,

5. After the war, ordinary citizens are left with nothing, no jobs, no money and if they have money it will more than likely be stolen by thieves, and no house.

8. I think Jonathan was just happy to be alive and have as much as he did in the end of the war. Most people would be gratful for what he had in the end.

Dead Men's Path

1. I predict that Michael Obi will be fired after the supervisor files his report.
-the path through the school grounds lets the dead depart by it and ancestors visit us by it, its also the path of children coming in to be born.
-the school grounds are vandalized after Obi refuses to reopen the path.

2. I think the villagers were justified in doing what they did because they thought that path was how their village stayed connected to their lost loved ones and for the future children to go into the village.

6. I think that if that young woman didn't die the school grounds wouldn't have been vandalized.

7. "let the hawk perch and let the eagle perch" the school headmaster should let the villagers keep their foot path even though he doesn't believe in its relevance.

Ramayana

1. My reaction to the battle between Rama and Ravana was surprised. I was surprised because of the way Rama fought in the battle, he was very level headed, and he wanted to have a fair fight with Ravana, unlike Achilles from the Iliad.
-Rama only used his bow and arrows to protect himself from in the battle and Ravana used every possible weapon he had. He used a trident, "maya", "thama"
-Rama defeated Ravana with a weapon called the "Brahmasthra"
-Rama treats Ravana with respect after he kills him

2. I believe Rama was able to Beat Ravana (even though Ravana had the advantage of 20 arms and 10 heads) because he was level headed throughout the battle and made smart decisions.

4. Rama's heroic code is to let his opponent have a fair fighting chance. He would never stab someone in the back as their retreating, he would want to fight the person face to face.

5. I don't think Ravana is heroic because he lacks certain qualities i believe hero's should have. Would not fight honorablely, if he got the chance he would stab Rama in the back, but Rama would want Ravana to have a fair chance.
